The first to graduate from high school and college in his family, Dr. Kenneth Howard is a community activists, pastor, professor, prolific motivational speaker, visionary, businessman, and community leader.
He is the Senior Pastor of New Breed Church, Adjunct Professor of Ethics, Humanities, History, World Religions, Systematic Theology, President of New Breed Community Development Corporation, Co-Founder and President of Coalition of Non-Profit Agencies of Detroit, President of Kingdom Konsultants, President of Outside the Box, and President New Breed Association.
Rev. Dr. Howard married his college sweetheart, the former Tawana McDowell of Flint, MI. Together they have four Mary, Kaleb, Faith, & Joshua.
Since graduating from Ferris State University, Dr. Howard has earned several degrees. He holds an Associates and Bachelor of Science from Ferris State University. He went on to obtain a Master of Science in Business Management from Cornerstone University in 2005. Dr. Howard graduated with a 3.9 g.p.a. receiving the honors of summa cum laude and the Distinguish Graduate Student Award.” He went on to earn a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts from Ecumenical Theological Seminary in 2007. In 2010, he earned his Doctorate degree at Ecumenical Theological Seminary, where his dissertation title was “ReThinking Theological Education – Training Laity in a Local Church Context.” Dr. Howard became the first in the history of the seminary to graduate with all three graduate degrees offered by this institution. While in Seminary, Dr. Howard completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.
Dr. Howard has serves as an adjunct professor for Grace College and Oakland County Community College. He is also a full-time professor of Systematic Theology at New Breed School of Ministry. He teaches the following subjects: Humanities, Ethics, Theological Education, World Religions, Business, and Homiletics.
In 2001, Dr. Howard and his wife Tawana together planted a church in his home town of Detroit, MI. On November 11, 2001, his church, New Breed Church, held its first service at his high school alma mater, Finney High School. Since then, New Breed Church has grown exponentially and has accepted the call to become “One Church Multiple Locations” resulting in New Breed Church-East and New Breed Church-Macomb located in Mt. Clemens.
This outreach centered urban-based church has impacted over 88,093 community residents and parishioners through feeding, clothing, tutoring, educating, training, preaching, and providing hope in its 15th year history under the direction of Dr. Howard.
The New Breed Community Development Corporation (NBCDC) [www.newbreedcdc.org], a 501c3 non-profit organization, was started by Dr. Ken Howard in November 2005 and was conceived from the realization that serious social and economic problems existed in urban Detroit and the Metro area. Dr. Howard started this leading organization to meet the felt-needs of the community and cater to the existential realities of the marginalized, low income, disenfranchised, and the most vulnerable in society. With two Community Centers in the Metro area, over twenty initiatives, and distributing over 2.5 million pounds of food annually to those who wrestle with food insecurity, NBCDC continues to be one of the most impactful non-profits in the Detroit area.
