President of ETS Alumni Association

Born and reared in Detroit, Michigan. Rev. VanMarter attended grade school in Hamburg, Germany for two years while staying with her great uncle and his family. Returned to the United States to attend high school and graduated from Edwin Denby High School. Married and reared two children who also attended Detroit Public Schools.

Dianne attended University of Michigan, Michigan State, and ultimately finished her degree at Wayne State University.

Feeling the call to ministry she entered the School for Pastoral Ministry in the United Methodist Church and began my Ministry at Omard UMC and then at Peck UMC. During this time she also studied at William Beaumont Hospital working under Rev. Carl Buxo in the Clinical Pastoral Education program. Upon completion of that class, she returned college after a hiatus of many years for a refresher course and ended up with an Associate Degree from Macomb CCC.  All during this time, the call to deeper religious study was answered in 2005.  After a meeting with Dr. Charles Mabee of ETS Dianne enrolled, the following week began her formal seminary education. She earned her Master of Divinity in 2009.

From the day, she started at ETS she also began working in the Biersdorf Library with Dr. Jonathan Roach and when Jonathan left to finish his Doctorate I became the library manager until 2014.  VanMarter also had the privilege to teach in the Muslim Chaplaincy Program.  Still to this day Dianne meets with students and they discuss theology and ideal logy.

In 2018, Rev. VanMarter was appointed ETS Alumni Association President and in that, capacity now serves as a member of the Ecumenical Theological Seminary Board of Directors.
