Vice Chair

Construction Executive

Mr. Bruttell has had a more than 40-year career in construction. He is a Licensed Builder and today is president of Bruttell Roofing, Inc. with offices in Oak Park, MI.

Adjunct Professor of History and Religious Studies

Mr. Bruttell is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy in the Religious Studies Dept. where he teaches various courses in history, social ethics and religious studies.

Chairman, InterFaith Leadership Council

He helped to found and currently serves as chairman and president of the Interfaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit. The IFLC serves the metropolitan community by connecting interfaith organizations with one another; combating virulent bigotry toward religious groups; protecting religious freedom as a religious value and promoting religious and cultural literacy through education.

Vice-chairman of the Ecumenical Theological Seminary

Serves on the board of the Seminary and chairs the Finance Committee.

Scholarship & Academic Interests

These include the history of religion in America, the intersection of science and religion, the ideas and structures of supremacy and segregation, social justice issues as well as America’s rocky attempt to make good on its declaration that all people are created equal. These interests have been the subject of a number of papers presented in scholarly forums including the American Academy of Religion and the Social Ethics Seminar.

His interest in social ethics and the contribution of religion to society led to co-founding The Center for Religion and Community Values at UDM along with Dr. George Pickering. He also formed the Michigan Roundtable’s Working Group on Religion and Community Formation.

Education

Awarded BSBA degree from Lawrence Technological University. Awarded Master of Arts in Religious Studies by the University of Detroit Mercy.
