Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harris
President and Academic Dean
The Rev. Dr. Harris serves as President and Academic Dean, and Professor of Biblical Studies at the Ecumenical Theological Seminary. From 2016-2011 Harris served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean. Dr. Harris has served in a number of other roles at ETS, beginning as a doctoral student in 1992, the founding director of the Urban Ministry Diploma program at ETS in 1994 and Dean of Students when Worship Week was inaugurated. In addition, Dr. Harris served as Adjunct Professor of Biblical Greek and New Testament at Ashland Theological Seminary, Detroit Center for several years.
Dr. Kenneth E. Harris is the founding pastor of the Detroit Bible Tabernacle (formerly Detroit Baptist Temple) where he has been honored to serve for over thirty years. DBT began as a home Bible study, and the church has been a labor of love. Dr. Harris has served as the student pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Port Huron Michigan, Senior Pastor of the Twelfth Street Baptist Church of Detroit, Education Chair of the Council of Baptist Pastors for seven years and membership chair of the Boy Scouts of America – Metro Detroit West.
He also serves on the Executive Board of the Great Lakes Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the Board of Trustees of Western Theological Seminary, the Faculty Development Advisory Committee of the Association of Theological Schools and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Franklin Wright Settlements in Detroit.
He served as Senior Production Buyer, General Motors Truck Division, Pontiac, Michigan, from 1972 to 1984. In 2006-2007 he served as Co-Chair of the Finance / Procurement Committee of the Governor’s Transition Team for Detroit Public Schools.
He has been married to the former Ruthie May White for the past forty-seven years. They have three daughters: Keedra, a former ETS employee, who is with the Lord; Karisa (B.A., M.S.W., M.A.C.E.), a psychiatric social worker and minister serving at DBT; Kenita (B.A., MDiv), an ordained pastor in the Reformed Church in America. He enjoys playing golf when possible and enjoys spending time in the kitchen creating meals for the family.
