Case Statement: “New Beginnings”
Our Mission Statement
Ecumenical Theological Seminary (ETS) provides a multi-confessional, multi-cultural Christian theological education that prepares individuals to participate and lead while sharing the fullness of God’s love and concern for justice in the communities they serve.
Ecumenical Theological Seminary is celebrating over sixty years of service to church and society. The seminary is the only fully accredited seminary of the Protestant tradition located within the city of Detroit. ETS, located in the heart of Mid-Town Detroit, is surrounded by unprecedented economic growth and development. As we are witness to the joy and the challenges of such explosive growth and expansion, ETS is in a season of transition and transformation as it prepares for its future. Our entire seminary is being transformed consistent with the shift of the theological landscape.
ETS is an independent theological school that depends on the support of friends, whose commitment and partnership enable the seminary to fulfill its mission of training and equipping servant leaders for the church and society. Along with a talented and diverse Faculty, all denominations of the Christian faith have been represented in our student body.
Our world needs ethical, value-loaded servant leaders for church and society. In the biblical tradition, all leaders were accountable to God as they carried out their duties, whether religious, civic or business. The opportunity to lead is seen as a gift and calling from God to serve others. It is not uncommon to see the consequences of self-interest and greed in today’s leaders. ETS is committed to preparing faith leaders who are well-equipped to lead congregations and other organizations who are competent theologically, biblically and ethnically. Such training is transformative to leaders, who then equip others to be transformative change agents.
ETS needs the support of friends to do this important work. With your help, for example, we can produce leaders who do more than preach, teach and lead congregations. We will produce leaders who are compassionate in caring for those they are called to serve.
