Greetings!

Welcome to the website of the Ecumenical Theological Seminary.  Located in the heart of Mid-town Detroit, ETS is the only accredited seminary of the Protestant tradition located within the city.  We are an independent seminary that has no denominational affiliation.  We are distinctively Christian and intentionally ecumenical, where Christians of all traditions are welcome.

Our location is not only geographical, but theological as well. We are committed to our calling at one of the most difficult and promising epicenters of American identity. In bringing together members of various religious communities in an ecumenical learning environment, ETS simultaneously addresses questions of spiritual nurture and social justice, traditional confession and cross-cultural innovation.

We are a community of scholars, ministry practitioners, staff and students who are diverse by ethnicity, race, gender, socio-economic realities and Christian tradition. Interfaith students have also been welcomed in prior years.

Your calling to ministry is important to us.  Our faculty members are scholar/practitioners who teach as well have practical experiences as pastors, chaplains, lay leaders and community leaders.  They are equipped to teach students who have the added benefit of their practical experience.

I have no doubt you will find ETS a welcoming, caring and engaging learning community where people of faith comfortably converse about difficult social-economic-political justice issues and seek to address them in a transparent way.

We hope you’ll take a tour of our website and learn more about our outstanding academic programs and other offerings.  Our Urban Ministry Diploma program, for example, can be a pathway to master’s-level study without an undergraduate degree.  Please contact us if you have any questions.  We are here to serve you.

Grace and Peace,
